Women - Take Charge of the Internet! Take Charge of Your Life!

By Lauren B Botney

The traditional workplace remains dominated by men. It follows that computer usage started out the same.
Desktop computers, the norm in virtually every office, began first in labs and adapted to the workplace. Many secretarial positions (mostly women) started using them to amplify the work of their superiors. Those women were, at the beginning, human word processors.

Time management evolved. So did technology. Upper management now has a computer although they may not do all of their work on the computer. Delegation still exists.  Home computers became popular. Technology created more uses for the computer. Computers are now necessities. Cell phone evolution is another case in point.

This trend is further adapting to internet marketing.  Men appear to yet dominate but change is definitely in the air. Women should appreciate that there is no glass ceiling to break online.  Gender bias is a lesser consideration when working online than anywhere else.  The feminine presence is gaining quickly. Women have created online communities that offer unlimited support. As women learn more, their online presence can grow exponentially.  The men's club door has opened. The sign might not officially welcome women newcomers but it no longer says "No Girls Allowed!"

Here are 4 of the top marketing tips for women who want to perfect their online skills:

1: Blogging: Female blogging networks are increasing. The participants/ authors speak to women directly and understand their particular needs and issues. Offering solutions to problems is the core of attraction marketing.  Offering quality content and easily understood "how-to" instructions fills a need. Getting involved is instructive and, simultaneously, establishes a platform for launching business.

2: Writing Articles: This technique is a basic way to start online. It is free! There is room for mistakes. There is room to learn without a loss, other than time. No time is ill spent if you learn from errors.
Beginner errors deal with precision: how to target your niche audience and how to make sure they find you.
These goals are best acquired by rolling up your sleeves, writing and publishing. Review your stats and see what works and what doesn't. Refine the process and do it again.

3: Newsletters: Let people know what you are doing. Prepare informative newsletters that ignite interest. Send them to a receptive audience. Don't spam. When human curiosity is aroused, more information is sought. All it takes is a click.

4: Free Samples: eBooks are the new darling of promoting. No one turns down a freebie in an area of interest. The response is generated because no downside cost is perceived.
Your benefit for the effort? You build a list of contacts who are interested in what you can offer.
As women engage these methods, they can start to rule the internet. The playing field will be evened --for the long term and for the better!

Time Management
Home-based entrepreneurs also require better time management skills than a corporate employee. Home based business owners must learn how to leverage their time and money. It is easy to get off track when your office is located in your garage, a den or the basement. Decide how much time you will devote to your business each day and stick to your time schedule.  Automate as much of your business as possible so that you are always available to your customers. Schedule each phase of your business day and set up systems that will automatically reply to inquiries. Automation of your menial tasks is a critical element in your overall time management strategy.
Web Site
Businesses are longer restricted to brick and mortar locations. There are no limits to the number of customers that home based business owners can acquire. The home based business owner can no longer limit themselves to doing business in their local community. The Internet allows global business interaction from anywhere in the world. Having one website may not be sufficient to accomplish the level of success that a home based business owner requires.  Home-based businesses compensate for their lack of a physical presence with a virtual presence in the World Wide Web. This presence may take the shape of several websites on several domains.
Organization & Automation
To conduct business in a professional and efficient way, it is important to organize everyday tasks into simple automated processes. Your home office should include everything you need to complete a transaction. It is easier to stay on top of daily tasks when the work-space is well organized. It is so much easier to complete the daily grunt work when these menial tasks are automated.
Inventory and Supplies
For home based business owners who sell physical products, it is important that these products are kept in a specified location. If you use your garage to keep stock you need to know the exact dimensions of your garage that is designated for this purpose. The best way to handle stock is to have the company send and maintain the bulk of your inventory. This eliminates a time lag for your customers. If you sell digital products, this process is handled automatically.
